VILA do BISPO INTERPRETATION CENTRE
the GOOSE BARNACLES MARKET

Opened on 3 May 2009, the Vila do Bispo Interpretation Centre rehabilitated the old municipal market and abattoir building, an architectural complex originally built in the early 20th century and traditionally known as the ‘Vila do Bispo Market’ and ‘Goose Barnacles Market’. In 2024, it became part of a wider museum structure centred on the Museum of Vila do Bispo - Barn of History.
Exploring themes such as Biodiversity, Geology, Palaeontology, Archaeology, History and Ethnology, the Vila do Bispo Interpretation Centre provides its visitors with a wide range of information about the region and its heritage assets and tourist attractions, as well as a vast annual programme of temporary exhibitions covering areas such as the classical arts, traditional arts and cultural, scientific and educational outreach. It also features a shop selling local products, literary publications and items of cultural interest.
